Child Protection Policy

Bright Beginnings Academy is committed to the prevention and early detection of abuse and/or neglect of children and young persons. The purpose of this policy is to provide staff guidelines by which to identify and respond appropriately to concerns of child abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) or neglect, and understand their role of keeping children safe and act in loco parentis.

All activities at Bright Beginnings Academy reflect the principle that the welfare and safety of the child and young people are the first and paramount consideration. This policy covers all staff that has direct or indirect contact with children. For the purpose of this policy, ‘staff’ is defined as anyone working for this school whether paid, voluntary, or contracted.

Guidelines

  • At all times a child’s safety and welfare are paramount.
  • We will always comply with relevant legislation and statutes.
  • Information will be shared in a timely way and any concerns about an individual child will be discussed with colleagues and management.
  • Ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored.
  • All information relating to children will be kept in confidence and only shared with permission and to relevant offices.
  • All children—regardless of age, gender, religion or belief, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background—have the right to positive and enjoyable experiences and protection from all forms of abuse in and out of school.
  • Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of an incident or concern of abuse and support is provided to the individual.
  • Ensure a viable Child Protection Committee is in place.

Roles of Child Protection Committee

  • Encourage a culture of listening to children and young people and taking account of their needs and feelings.
  • Develop and implement a school-based referral and monitoring system.
  • Initiate information dissemination programs and organize activities for the protection of children from abuse.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns.
  • Keep confidential data about children.
  • Create a safe and friendly school environment for all.
  • Treat every child equally with empathy and respect.
